Aloe Vera and why it's good for you.

I love to soap with a lot of different mediums. There are so many things out there that I don't think people realize are good for their skin. Aloe vera has been used for centuries for it's medicinal qualities but did you know it's also great for the outside of your body, your skin?! Aloe vera has great hydrating properties, there's a reason major companies sell that bright green goo you buy in a bottle for after sun care. Studies have been shown it reduces erythema (redness) hence it's popularity as well in that gooey substance. I'm not a fan of goo, I try and take every precaution to not get burnt as to avoid using it. I now honestly keep a gallon of straight aloe refrigerated at all times for soap making and also to put on my skin if I do happen to get a little toasted in the summer sun.

Aloe vera is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants that help to protect your skin. Important compounds in aloe vera have also been shown to neutralize the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, repair skin from existing UV damage, and to help prevent fine lines.

Aloe vera is just another of mother nature's gifts to us that does not contain harmful chemicals or parabens...go ahead and read your green goo's label, you might be surprised what else you find in it. So I am stepping off my soap box for the day, yes pun intended, but if you really want to be good to yourself avoid all the bad additions and go straight for the plain aloe vera.  This is also why I have started using aloe in some of my soaps...which are chemical and paraben free. Thank you Mother Nature!
